Insomniac Games hosted their panel for San Diego Comic Con yesterday and oh boy, did they deliver. Not only did we get a PlayStation 5 Special Edition Console to coincide with the game’s release, but we got a brand new story trailer. Giving the fans a better idea of what’s ahead for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

From the almost two minute trailer, we learned right off the bat that Harry Osborn is involved in the game’s story. From Marvel’s Spider-Man’s post-credit scene, we knew he was tied to the symbiote but him being a major player in the story is huge. In my opinion, Harry is going to play a pivotal role in influencing Peter’s decisions. It’s all riding on Harry’s second chance and their dream to heal the world. Peter obviously cares for his best friend, even though Harry’s presence in the first game was almost non-existent, but that connection alone will move Peter in different directions.

Miles’ role in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2's story is now more clearly defined. While Peter is battling himself with the symbiote, Miles is trying to become a better Spider-Man. The tutoring line could mean actual academics but I believe it implies “Spider-Man lessons,” teaching Miles how to be better as a wall-crawler. Or it could be their code word for Spider-Man duties overall. Either way, Peter seems to be relying less on Miles when in the story trailer, Miles said:

“You know if you need me, I’m just a call away.”

And MJ’s line’s to Peter:

“All Miles talks about is how to be a better Spider-Man. How to help you.”

“You know if you need me, I’m just a call away,” Miles said to Peter in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Another story point for Miles is his confrontation with Martin Li aka Mister Negative. Li is responsible for Jefferson Davis’ death. Miles hates Li to say the least. How Miles handles this confrontation is going to be telling for Marvel Spider-Man 2’s story. My theory is Miles’ and Li’s confrontation takes place at the beginning of the game as we see Peter dawning the red and blue suit in the background. Something happened at Ryker’s Island, causing the Spider-Men to arrive. Miles is going to be emotional when Li is in front of him. By having Peter calm Miles down and not take action based on his emotions, it foreshadows the irony in what Peter will do when he gains the symbiote.

Kraven’s hunt in New York City seems to be about the Spider-Men but it could be about every super person in the city. There’s a reason why they showed those faces on his map a few months back and the Spider-Men are likely the main thorn in Kraven’s back. He likely hunts down the Lizard successfully who’s also Dr. Connors. This leaves Peter in a pinch as Dr. Connors is the only one who can help Harry with his illness, according to the Entertainment Weekly article.

Lastly, Venom who is the highly anticipated big bad of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. One of the most iconic Spider-Man villains is making his presence known. We still don’t know who he is, the only thing Insomniac Games confirmed was it’s not Eddy Brock during Summer Games Fest. In my opinion, from this story trailer alone, I’m convinced Venom is Harry Osborn. It’s the obvious choice. From the post-credit scene of the black tendrils around him to Venom in this trailer saying “we’re going to heal the world,” Harry Osborn as Venom would be perfect for this adaptation. It’s happened before in the Ultimate Spider-Man TV Series but here, it feels all too perfect.
