Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Review (PS5)

A stellar remake of the 2010 Wii exclusive but suffers from its core mechanics.

Epic Mickey was an ambition title for the era. Oswald the Rabbit’s return and a darker tone turned some heads in the community. The game ranked decently amongst critics, citing poor camera control and no voice acting.

A sequel, The Power of Two, released two years later. Despite it launching on nearly every platform, the game performed much worse. Review scores ranged between 50s to 60s and sold nowhere near one million copies.

Now comes 2024 and during the February Nintendo Direct, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is announced for later this year. A surprise to say the least, considering Disney abandoned this iteration of Mickey Mouse.

Developed by Purple Lamp, the same folks responsible for the recent Spongebob games, we at least knew the remake was in good hands.

Epic Mickey is still playable but outdated Wii controls hinder it

I intended on buying the game back in 2010 because it was released on my birthday. However, after hearing the mediocre reviews, I decided to pass on it and play it at a later time.
