About the new Peter Parker model…

Insomniac Games reveal Peter’s new model for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

Update: Bryan Intihar, Creative Director at Insomniac Games, released a statement regarding the new Peter Parker Model

Today, Insomniac Games released more details about Marvel’s Spider-Man Remaster on the PlayStation Blog. The blog featured stunning visuals for the improved environments of New York City, the 60fps performance mode, the Amazing Suit from The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and the brand new Peter Parker Model. The main detail many fans are focused on right now is this new model. Fans are not happy with this new version of Peter Parker since it has strayed too far from the original model on the PlayStation 4. Some are even comparing this PS5 model to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in terms of looks. Insomniac Games states the reasoning behind the new model is “to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture”. Insomniac also included a video to show the model in motion.

It’s pretty clear on Twitter fans are upset by this new character model. Insomniac Games’ Twitter person is trying their best in doing damage control for their tweet announcing the blog being published. A huge amount of the fan base is upset by their decision to recast the original look of Peter Parker, despite them explaining in the blog post to better match Yuri Lowenthal’s performance for the PlayStation 5. I’m not going to say I hate this new version of Peter Parker but I don’t like it either. My initial reaction to the new Peter Parker model was “oh they REALLY changed up the model huh?”. My reaction wasn’t necessarily negative but more of a shock one since they decided to go with a actor who looks drastically different from the original. I wasn’t a huge fan of Peter Parker’s original model before the game’s release but slowly grew to be fine with it once I had the game in my hands.

Old Peter (Top Left), New Peter (Bottom Left), Miles (Right)

The main criticism fans are complaining about is how much younger this version of Peter Parker looks now. He’s suppose to be eight years into his career as the web swinger but now, he looks like a Peter Parker who has been doing it for at most three years. Having this new Peter next to Miles, Miles does look like the older one now. The new model in motion looks fine, it’s just the face is too young for being a Peter Parker with nearly a decade under his belt as Spider-Man. Right now, it seems like Insomniac Games aren’t backing down from this new model of Spider-Man according to their replies on Twitter. Maybe they’ll get a new actor to resemble an older Peter Parker but I don’t think we’ll be getting the one who was featured on the PlayStation 4. Only time will tell as fans still want the older actor back or a new person all together.

The remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man is set to launch along side Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on November 12th, 2020 for the PlayStation 5 at $69.99.
